HD comes to the Canon family
THE sale of digital cameras seems hardly affected by the global recession, and manufacturers are still happily rolling out new models. On Tuesday, Canon Singapore took the wraps off its latest slate of IXUS and PowerShot digital compact cameras.
.
The four additions to the IXUS family are the entry-level 95 IS ($399), the wide-angled 110 IS ($549), the bigger 990 IS (pricing unavailable) and the 100 IS ($469), which is the slimmest IXUS model so far. With the exception of the 95 IS, this set of cameras now boasts high-definition (HD) 1,280 x720 movie recording capability.
.
The PowerShot series also welcomes four new members to its dynasty  the beginner-level A480 IS ($219), the easy-to-operate A1100 IS ($329) and A2100 IS (pricing unavailable), and the super-zoom SX200 IS (pricing unavailable) with 12x (28-336mm of 35mm equivalent) optical zoom lens (picture).
.
Among the new PowerShot models, only the SX200 IS does not use the ubiquitous AA-sized battery, though it’s the only one with HD movie recording capability. Trevor Tan
