Makeup to Match 80s Fashion Revival

The keyword in fashion in 2009 is retro, and a return to the 1980s. Tops with exaggerated shoulder pads, sequined with glittering spangles and leather leggings reminiscent of rockers in the 1980s are in trend. Leading global fashion brands are competing to launch 80s style clothes, and local Korean brands swimming with the tide showcased jackets with shoulder pads and neon colors. Fashion experts say in a recession, clothes tend to go the opposite way. What makeup goes well with 1980s fashion? As for lipstick, Shin Hye-young at Dior said, "Reddish colors that give a plumper look to lips will lead the trend this fall and winter. Pink, which had been popular before, will be replaced by stronger rose or raspberry colors." The popularity of lip gloss is fading while sales of lipstick are on the rise. According to French cosmetics research firm Beauy© Research, MAC sold the most makeup items such as lipsticks and eye shadows in Korea between January and June this year, followed by Christian Dior, Chanel, Bobbi Brown and Lancme. Beauty© Research compiles the sales data in department stores from each cosmetics company to make the ranking chart every year. SK-II, Amore Pacific and LG Household & Health Care, which are popular cosmetics brands in Korea, were excluded from the list as they are not registered with Beauty© Research. http://english.chosun.com/site/data/html_dir/2009/09/18/2009091800209.html
