LONDON (AFP) – Pop opera quartet Il Divo topped the British charts with their new album “The Promise,” knocking Girls Aloud off the number one spot in a top 10 dominated by old classics.

Welsh rockers Stereophonics went straight in at number two with “Best Of — Decade in the Sun,” pushing the girls’ “Out of Control” into third place.

After eight weeks in the charts, Tennessee’s Kings of Leon are staying the course, jumping two places to four with their new album “Only by Night.”

They were followed by Pink’s “Funhouse,” down three places to five.

As Christmas fast approaches, Celtic singer Enya returned to the charts at six with an album inspired by the holiday season, “And Winter Came.”

Enrique Inglesias’ “Greatest Hits” was on seven, down four places, while “My Love — The Essential Collection” from Celine Dion fell one to eight.

Snow Patrol’s “A Hundred Million Suns” dropped to ninth place while Christina Aguilera’s ‘best of’ compilation, “Keeps Gettin’ Better — A Decade of Hits,” came straight in at number 10.
