The compact PowerShot G10 gives you high quality pictures despite its size

THE PowerShot G10 ($869) is the latest model in the distinguished G series of Canon’s digital compact cameras, which is deemed by many as a lighter alternative to DSLR (digital single-lens reflex) cameras.

At first glance, the G10 looks exactly like its predecessor, the G9. But there are some subtle changes. For example, the ISO dial on top has been moved from left to right. It sits just below the mode dial, with the top left side taken over by the exposure compensation dial. This makes changing exposure settings much easier.

Although she has driven in Australia and New Zealand before, Pauline Chan professed to being a coward when it comes to taking her family on a road trip north.

“Malaysia is one of those places I’m not too sure about,” admitted the 48-year-old sales manager. “I don’t want to drive there on my own.”

Yet, as holidays abroad are becoming more expensive for families hit by the economic downturn, an instant getaway provided by a road trip has its appeal.

FROM Nov 5, motorists will have an alternative mode of payment for Electronic Road Pricing: Via their Visa or MasterCard credit cards.

The scheme will benefit motorists who may forget to insert their CashCards in their in-vehicle unit (IU) or may not have the time to top-up their CashCards when the card balance is low.

The scheme comes with a monthly subscription fee of $2.50, and motorists must first subscribe online via the One.motoring or MotorPay websites from Nov 5.

Once an email notification is sent, successful applicants can go card-free through gantries.
