NAPIER is living proof that the rubble of destruction can be the seed of a beautiful beginning. Flattened by an earthquake in 1931, this Kiwi city, located on the eastern coast of the North Island, has since rebuilt itself to become a gorgeous art deco shrine, luring vintage-lovers and romantic souls from around the world. Even if you're not particularly inclined towards art or architecture, the amazingly fresh produce and oh-so-good red wine from New Zealand's Hawke's Bay region would suffice to inspire a jolly bacchanalian spirit in you. SERENE LIM     Deco Bus Tour: S$40.67   While the city is filled with pretty art deco sights worthy of countless snaps, hop on board the Deco Bus Tour to see more unusual buildings. The 75-minute tour from Art Deco Napier (www.artdeconapier.com) costs NZ$40 (S$40.60) and brings you to the National Tobacco Company building, the historic Ahuriri and the outer-lying suburbs.     Late brunch at Groove Kitchen Espresso: S$16.78   Rated as one of New Zealand's best cafes, Groove Kitchen Espresso (www.groovekitchen.co.nz) is a cosy chic stop for refuelling. Sophisticated nosh made with locally sourced produce and excellent coffee hit the spot. The Full Benne (NZ$16.50) with egg hollandaise, hashcakes and freshly made pesto should keep you happy.     Paintball at Mountain Valley: S$30.50   It's time for some action at Napier's most scenic grounds. Mountain Valley (www.mountainvalley.co.nz) lives up to its name overlooking Te Waka peak with the Mohaka River running through it. It's an adventure lodge with loads of activities but blasting away across the lush fields sounds like the most fun. Load up with a starter pack of 100 paintballs with a semi-automatic, VForce Goggles and gloves for NZ$30.   Beer at Cabana Bar: S$13.05   Napier's legendary bar nurses a great rep as "the best gig in the country" and it's the place to catch live bands. Grab a beer or two here with the rest of your dough and head-bang or air-guitar to the rollicking tunes of the house.       Total: S$101   Prices and conversion rates accurate as at press time.       This article was featured in Today July 7, 2011. http://www.todayonline.com/Travel/EDC110707-0000006/Travel-101-,,,-Napier
